A variety of percussion instruments were used during the Renaissance; anvil and hammer, bells and chimes, small cymbals, side drum, tabor, tambourine, Nakers (small kettle drums), kettle drums (timpani), and xylophones. Percussion instruments were used mainly for religious ceremonies, civic processions, military signals and encouragement, and dancing.
